Please Fix Limited Reach Distance in Lower World Scale

Postby jjxn » Sun Jan 20, 2019 10:56 pm

My reach in Vivecraft is extremely limited. It looks to be approximately 2.5 blocks. I cannot place, break, or interact with anything further than ~2.5 blocks away.

Note that I have set World Scale to 0.6 since that makes the player look/feel as though they are 2 blocks tall which is the height of a normal Minecraft model and thus, looks most similar to normal Minecraft. When World Scale is set to 1.0 then the reach distance is approximately 5 blocks (decent), however, when walking under a bridge only 2 blocks tall the screen goes black as your head passes through the bottom of the bridge.

I wish to game at World Scale 0.6 since it looks similar in scale to normal Minecraft, however, I am trying to get a reach distance of at least 5 blocks

To Reproduce:
vivecraft-1.12.2-jrbudda-7-r9 - ViveCraft 1.12.2

Seated mode
VR Settings->World Scale = 0.6

Steps to Troubleshoot So Far:
Set world scale to 0.6, 0.7, and 1.0 to test the reach distance. Determined that reach distance shrinks too small to practically use when world scale is below 1.0

Dug through settings to see if reach distance is customizable.
Shows Default World Scale 1.0 too big (prefer 0.6)

Why are you so freakishly tall? Minecraft is in meters and a world scale of 1 is the default. You seem waaay too tall at a scale of 1. What VR system are you using?

I'm actually short irl.

I am using an Oculus Rift in seated mode. I did find it strange that a World Scale of 1.0 was very tall...

I tried starting Vivecraft both when sitting down and when standing up but in both cases I seem to be very tall when the World Scale is set to 1.0

I also recalibrated my Oculus Rift but that didn't change anything.

I figured out that I am able to mostly compensate for my virtual tallness by installing OpenVR Advanced Settings and using that to lower my in game height by 1 meter (see attached picture). However I'm still slightly taller than usual and it also means I have to adjust this height setting everytime I start and stop Vivecraft (otherwise my head will be in the floor in other VR games).

So I guess I currently have a way to make the game playable (OpenVR Advanced Settings manual height adjustment).

One key note is that I am unable to run the Steam VR Room Setup because my playspace does not meet the minimum 1.5mx2.5m requirements (which is why I need to play in seated mode). I'm curious if my inability to run Steam VR Room Setup is somehow causing this issue... However my height is normal in every other steam VR game I play...
